Benelli's SuperNova is a 12-gauge pump shotgun with a 28-inch barrel, a 3 1/2-inch chamber and a 4+1 tube, finished in black over a synthetic stock. It weighs 7.8 pounds, runs 49.5 inches end to end, and has a 14 3/8-inch length of pull. The red-bar front sight gives a plain reference along the rib, and the manual safety can be set up for a left- or right-handed shooter.

The long chamber means one gun covers everything from light field loads to heavy waterfowl shells. For New Jersey deer hunters it is a sensible choice, because the state allows only shotguns, muzzleloaders and bows for deer and this 12 gauge sits inside the 10-to-20-gauge window. Plug the magazine so the gun holds no more than three shells, load slugs or buckshot, and it is set for the Six-Day Firearm season of December 7-12 or the Permit Shotgun dates listed for your Deer Management Zone.
