The American Tactical Nomad is a single-shot 20 gauge with an exposed hammer, a break-open action and a manual safety. The barrel is 26 inches with a 3-inch chamber and a bead front sight, the metal is blued, and the stock and forend are black checkered synthetic. It weighs 5.5 pounds, measures 41.5 inches and has a 14-inch length of pull.

The exposed hammer tells you at a glance whether the gun is cocked, and the break action opens for loading and shows an empty chamber to anyone watching. In New Jersey a single-shot 20 gauge is a straightforward deer gun under the state's shotgun rules: the bore is in the 10-to-20-gauge range and it holds one shell, well under the three-shell limit. Load a slug for the Six-Day Firearm season or the Permit Shotgun dates in your zone, and use birdshot for small game the rest of the year.
