The Cavalry SX in 28 gauge is a 6.2-pound over-and-under from American Tactical with 26-inch barrels, 2 3/4-inch chambers and a silver receiver over a wood stock. The single selective trigger lets you choose which barrel fires first, the safety is a cross-bolt, there is a bead front sight, and five interchangeable chokes are packed with the gun. Length of pull is 14.25 inches and overall length 43.5 inches.

Twenty-eight gauge is a small-bore upland and clays cartridge, and this gun is built around that: light to carry, quick to swing, gentle on the shoulder. It falls outside New Jersey's 10-to-20-gauge rule for deer, so it is not a slug gun for the December seasons; think upland birds, skeet and sporting clays instead. The choke set lets you open the pattern for close-flushing birds or tighten it for longer clay presentations.
