Uberti's 1860 Army Fluted Steel is a single-action cap-and-ball revolver in .44 caliber with an 8-inch barrel and a fluted, engraved steel cylinder. The frame is case hardened, the barrel and backstrap are blued, and the trigger guard is brass. It weighs 2.6 pounds, measures 13.8 inches overall, holds six shots and carries fixed iron sights.

The fluted cylinder with its engraved detailing is the visual signature of this version, and the 8-inch barrel gives a long sight radius for deliberate shooting at the range. In New Jersey it is bought as a handgun: Permit to Purchase, filed online through the NJSP Firearms Application and Registration System to your local police, valid 90 days with one automatic renewal, and a dealer background check through the State Police before you take it home. Collectors who shoot their replicas will find the fixed sights and single-action lockwork straightforward to live with.
