The Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon I Sporting is a 12 gauge over/under with 32-inch steel vent-rib barrels, 3-inch chambers and the Optima-Choke HP interchangeable choke system. Its steel receiver carries silver engraving above a European walnut stock, with bead sights, a 14.38-inch length of pull and a manual tang safety. The gun holds two shells, weighs 7 pounds and measures 50 inches overall in a right-hand configuration.

Thirty-two inches of barrel is a sporting clays choice, giving a long sight line and a steady swing on crossing targets. For a New Jersey owner the numbers also line up with the state's deer rules: 12 gauge is inside the permitted range and two barrels stay under the three-shell cap, so with a tight choke and slugs it could see the Six-Day Firearm season in December. Most days, though, this is a clays gun with a break-action simplicity that is easy to show clear between stations.
