Imperial German Spandau Model 1871/84 Bolt Action Rifle 11mm Mauser

An Imperial German Model 1871/84 made at the Spandau arsenal in 1888, chambered in 11mm Mauser with a 32-inch round barrel. The 71/84 was Germany's first repeating service rifle, feeding from an eight-shot tube under the barrel, and it was the last black-powder Mauser the army issued before the Model 1888 Commission rifle replaced it. On this one the serial numbers match throughout, down to the trigger guard screws. The grooves carry scattered oxidation but the rifling is strong, the stock is very good with minimal handling marks and clear Imperial cartouches, and the action is smooth and works as it should. Serial number 8602.

This is a collector's rifle in New Jersey. Centerfire rifles are not legal for deer in the state, so the 11mm Mauser stays a range and display piece, where the matching numbers and crisp cartouches are the whole point.
